OK, heres what I am looking for.

I need something SMALL, that is mp3 capable, but will also store files.
Hooks up with USB, and has at least 20 gig storage.
Windows compatible.

Any recommendations?

The Ipod came to mind, but will it do files?

Thanks alot guys.

iPods do files just fine. I'd look at what Garmin is tempting you with first, but then remember the iPod will Just Work™

rumer has it the new minidisk will do it it at firswt will only be 1 gig but the media is removable and only 7 bucks or so

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

If all you need is music, buy a MP3 CD player for $15. No sense in spending $500 on something that will be obsolete and the battery not working in 3 years. Might as well save up for a nice night vision scope instead.

I own Minidisc and don't recommend it, transferring files it too much of a pain due to Sony's crappy digital rights management software.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

i can tranfers music to my md as fast as i can to a mp3 player

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

Isn't the 'problem' with minidisc, that it takes a long time to convert files into the mindisc format? BTW why hasn't anyone come out with a portable MP3 player that has AM on it? There's no news or sports talk on FM.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

I have a MD player already, and a 32 meg Rio mp3 player.

Garmin.... ah,,,, WHAT are you talking about???? do tell man!!

I would just stick with an MP3 player, but I want something all in one, that I can transport files with also.

I liked the design of the Ipod, and the fact that I can get 15 to 40 GB ones. And their batt life seemed great, about 7 Hours of playback, while at a stationary position.
BUT, they are rather pricy.

How about a 40gig MP3 + MP4 video player + HDD. Price and size is around the ipod's.

Something likeThis

Cost even more than a 40GB iPod though.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

eek, thats out of my price range.

Little too large ai think also.

I am thinking 300 tops.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

Hmmm lot of good options there.
I dont think I want to go with something that has a screen for playing movies.
More to break. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
I wouldnt evern watch a move on it really anyway.
I have been looking at the Toshiba e800 Pocket PC.
And i would get it, but, its storage is limited to compact flash /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif So, thats about 1 gig.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

You could dig a 4GB CF out of a mini-iPod for $249 instead of buying it alone for $500. Unfortunately they are all sold out for this reason.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

Are they actually CF cards though????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
That I could use in my digital camera?

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

Yea apparently, but I think they're gonna solder them the next run so people can't take them out.

Re: Recommend a: small,mp3, storage, portable thin

That seems so odd.
Are they just the bare chip?
Or the complete card? Including the casing? Just like when you buy them?
If so, no wonder ppl bought them up for that.

Heck, if I were Apple, I would leave it like that, if ppl are buying them up for that reason, why not!
