Although I currently keep my Mag Charger in the door pocket of the car, I am looking to replace it with something giving a bit more light....

Not really wanting to go to the expense of a HID type lamp, as although I have seen ones for around the £100 mark from HK/China, I presume they are of low quality??

I do have a couple of requirements - Size wise, no longer than a Mag Charger, and the head needs to be approx 70mm as a max, othewise it won't physically fit into the door pocket...

Rechargeable would be nice, esp if it could be left connected to the 12v in the car :)

I await your suggestions....

Mike

You could just take your Magcharger and add in a bi-pin holder and new bulb (I forget which one is common for this). You could double the output, although runtime would be halved.

Cost would be less than $75.

From this thread:

Magcharger:

Drop-in a Welch Allyn 1160.
Higher and whiter output. No special parts needed beside the bulb.

Drop-in a Philips 5761.
Higher and whiter output. No special parts needed beside the bulb.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I think I really, really want a Stanley HID now.....

If you are considering a spotlight now, the Cyclops Thor X Sirius would probably be just right for you. It is only about 1/2 the size of the Stanley HID so it would be much more convenient to store in your vehicle. Output wise it is around 400-500 lumens. It is quite a powerful light and has amazing throw, plus a very long runtime.

Get the Stanley and upgrade the Magcharger and you will have TWO new lights!!
I concur. The Stanley is quite bulky. When you have to chase the next-door kids off your front lawn you'll be glad you have both :D

Look at the new Streamlight LED HP which is fairly compact in size, puts out a spotty 200 lumens out the front, has 3 light levels, and is a proven company and design.

get terralux tle 300r retrofit for your magcharger, about 500lm, and might even have longer runtime.
