Recommend me a light

I need an EDC light recommendation. I currently carry a Surefire G2 with P61 lamp, Nuwai TM-311H and Inova X1. I have a birthday approaching. :)

The Surefire is a my oh #&^ and "tactical" use light that virtually never gets used, due in part to it's 20 minute runtime. Given the small size and 120 lumens the runtime is a price I am willing to pay.

The Inova is for long runtime. Power outages, general dark places, point blank navigating and illumination, reading, whatever comes up. It does not have the overal output or throw to work well anywhere there is ambient light, or outdoors, though.

The Nuwai just got thrown in there. It has seemingly better throw and output than the Inova, but I am not a fan of AAA batteries unless on a keychain light and it still isn't bright enough.

I want something in between the G2 (P61) and Inova X1 in output and throw as well as runtime. Can be a 1xAA or 2xAA. It should have a secure clip or way of easily attaching one. If 2xAA it MUST have a clip. It must be capable of being run with alkaline, NiMH or lithium batteries. Full regulation would be nice.

A Fenix L1P or L2P might fit the bill, but they do not have a clip. Is there a way to attach a secure clip to them? What else should I consider? Maximum price is $50, though less is preferable.

Well, the G2 doesn't have a clip, but I'd think the G2 would be ideal if you just put a P60 module back into it.

But for a good low priced light that is small and outputs good white light, it's hard to beat the Dorcy 1W CR123 ($20 at Target) however it doesn't have a clip. If you want just a tad more light, the Nuwai Q3 is a possiblility, but it's mostly sold by web merchants or out of Taiwan/China, so you can pretty much kiss any warranty goodbye. The Q3 does have a clip.

Other possiblitities include the 1W/3W 3AAA models from Brinkmann (also at Target.) Also no clip, no holster.

Now with your requirement of:

You are aware that you've just described a 2AA Mini Mag, don't you? :lolsign:

I wrote a long, in depth reply four time and it froze/locked up everytime. I give up completely if this doesn't work.

Edit: I think I need a Fenix L1P and/or L2P now that I read a seperate thread and found out you can use an Infinity Ultra clip. Just need to call Infinity for a clip or two if I go that route.

hmm what do you have against 123a lithiums's that way you could have a standardized battery size for your kit. if i were you i would buy a surefire L1. looooong runtime on low(150 hours ~2 lumens), and plenty bright on high (2 hours~30 lumens) only one 123 in it as well

I want as many of my lights as possible to be CR123 or AA. I prefer AA for this use because they are so readily available, cheap, and can be had in NiMH. I might consider 123s though. The SF L2 is way out of my price range for this light. $50 max. My SF G2 with P60 lamp would do the job except that, again, I don't want 123s. I also want to retain my G2 in current form and hope I don't have to use it. The light I am looking for will be used for anything and everything, and if I kill the batteries it won't bother me.


Is there a 2xAAA that would do it? I really like the size of my Nuwai TM-311H (River Rock 2xAAA) but want to double or triple the output, though runtime will be cut so long as it is 1 hour or more I will be happy.

If you can get a hold of an Infinity Ultra type clip, it goes great on the Civictor. Allows bezel down carry and no rubbing of clip against body when changing batteries. Civictor output and run time match Fenix L1P, i.e. very, very good. Also waterproof and more reliable than any of the others (no clickie to break...).

Fenix-store has a sale for something less than $29 shipped (plus your clip, of course...)

That might be my best option. Other than price, is there a reason to get the Civictor over the L1P?

I tried to link to a post from a thread that is currently active where someone called Infinity and they actually gave him two ultra type clips at no charge, but CPF kept freezing. He was using the clip on an L1P.
