I am looking to upgrade from Mag-lite C and D models to something better to use around the house. I am always crawling under the house and in dark spaces. The Mags don't seem to be bright enough and I can never get the things to shine where I need the beam to go. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A great place to start would be something like a Fenix L2D. Runs on standard AA batteries, is tons brighter than anything you've ever had, and will fit in a pocket.

The L2D is an excellent choice. Or the L2T (if you don't like the annoying strobe and SOS functions).

If your budget is limited, the MagLeds are on sale at Lowe's right now for $15. They are substantially brighter than the regular Maglites.

For a little different perspective you might consider a headlamp. They are great for crawling around in dark places. It will leave your hands free and is always aimed where you are looking. They are so popular that they have their own area here on CPF:

On the other hand, I will also agree with 1dash1 and Yucca Patrol and say that the L2D is one of my favorite and most used lights, so you couldn't go wrong with that either.

+10 for the L2D.

Compact, solid, easy to use, bright light and uses common AA cells. My first CREE light was a cheap DX UFC3 and couldnt be happier.

I think I'd have to agree on something from Fenix! My most used light is a P2D Q5 and it has a pretty decent beam unlike a Mag that is only good tight.

I think the same light engine is on the L2.

You never have to mess with SOS or Strobe if you don't want to.

Good luck!

PS. Something with a Seoul LED P4 is always floodier than a Cree.

There are alot of single cell lights out there that are very nice with lots of out put and run time. It all depends on how much money you want to spend. I like HDS, RA Lights and Novatac's too. They are all $100.00+ lights but they will take a beating and are bright enough to light up and out to 100 feet, compact, the list goes on. They are water tight too......
