Recommendation For a mariner...?

I'm a mariner. Would like a light with a variable beam width and light output. At the extremes, would like to be able light on a moonless night, land at 1 mile away well enough for visual clues from fixed points for coastal navigation. It would be nice if the same flashlight could reduce power and increase beam width for use in ship's interior.

I guess what I'm asking for is the brightest on the market currently, that is controllable in output and beam width.

What would you experts recommend?
