Hi,
What is the use for having the piece of plastic/glass that covers the head of the flashlight besides potecting the bulb? Wouldn't it be more clear to remove it as long as you're careful in not breaking the bulb?
dust dirt oil water things like that come to mind, some of the LED lights I have did not come with a lense

The reflectors typically have a microscopically thin metalic coating. Any rubbing of the reflector is likely to cause scratches or even rubbing the reflective layer off. A lens is good thing!
