Hey Gang,
I think it may be time to replace my current EDC (gee, haven't we all done that?)

Here is the thing, for the last year or 2, I've pretty much only hung out in the machining section, so I have NO clue what is out there right now

Current EDC is the EDC60 - yes I've been carrying it THAT long, and it is to the point it no longer looks hard anodized, but bare aluminum with mottled HA

I am NOT unhappy with the light output levels - in fact, rarely run it at high, and almost never in turbo, BUT it would be nice if the highest/turbo mode was brighter with a bit of throw. That said, most of its use is "look under desks, in fuse boxes, etc) (places where my Tigerlight headlamp would probably work better)

So, I'm guessing that a narrow to medium flood would be best for most of my work (would love to be able to look in the small yard with it)

Price? Fairly open

Battery? Either CR123 or AA/AAA - doesn't much matter

Material? Make it durable - probably Al, Stainless, Ti

two important ones LED please, and a HIGH CRI warm LED - like the good color rendition.

And would love to keep the size of the EDC60 or smaller

Basically, and updated, "better" EDC60 (I'm SURE things have gotten better since the EDC60 was the hot EDC light)
 
Looks like a good option. A bit larger than their old EDC60 (which was the top of the line back when) which I carry, I just don't like "pre-order" - I'll wait till Mid December if I'm going to get that
 
Supposedly after the pre-orders get filled, assuming what he's ordered is less than what gets pre-ordered, they will be available on the website. I've held off for quite awhile due to any HDS orders being long-term pre-orders until very recently, so I understand that concern. I just couldn't turn it down, myself, since I've been waiting for HDS' lead-time to decrease for 1-2 years, now. If you miss out on it, though, the Clicky models are getting into folks' hands within just weeks, now, so a regular HDS HCRI Clicky would not be bad at all. It would just be a good bit warmer.

The Nichia 219 isn't much brighter, and in the HDS, will not appear any brighter at all. It's main claim to fame is the tint CCT and quality, in that it has a soft white appearance, being just slightly warmer than what appears to be "pure" white, so it looks good, and works just as well, under yellow street lights as it does under cool office fluorescent, while still offering all the color and depth/texture perception advantages of warmer HCRI LEDs. From a purely practical perspective, I'm not sure it's really better, in terms of what you an see, so much as it, "looks right," compared to the warmer Cree HCRI.

And not to try and put you off a N219 HDS EDC which I think will be the best of the best but a few other options include

a) A regular High CRI HDS EDC 120 which is much warmer but more readily available.
b) Illumination Gear is supposed to have a run of EagleTac D25LC2s in 219s in Dec
c) Over in the modders sub forum here Vinh offers a number of N219 lights and is usually happy to put a N219 in most things he offers in other emitters or might modify a favorite you have that doesent come in a 219. I have a Jetbeam RRT-01 and an EagleTac D25C2 with N219s in the pipe from him.
