Im thinking about getting some Pila's and a charger, but I like to see something first, if someone would be so kind as to perform this test for me.

Charge 2 Pila 168S cells. Do a runtime discharge of one cell in a L4 or L5. Hold on to the other one for a week, then do the same runtime discharge using the same light and compare to two runtimes. Basically I want to see how well the cells hold their charge. If someone's already had experience and can reply, that'd be great too! Thanks guys!

That would be a GREAT test. I'd be quite interested in whatever is revealed.

Should this go in the Elec/Batt inc. forum?
 
This sounds like a great test. I will start the test right now. I just put the batteries in the charger. The light I will use is a L5. I think there are published self discharge stats of 1-2% but a real world one week test would be worth it I think. I bet I'll only loose a very little amount of runtime if any. And the difference between batteries might make a difference. Maybe I should only use one battery for the test, time it for the first run test, and then recharge it leaving it set for one week?

Today I dropped a Pila 168s battery in the charger that hade been sitting idle for three weeks. The "smart: battery would not allow a charge; it was allready full. After a five minute run on a SF L-5 it was ready for a short 15 minute charge. This indicates to me a minimal storage loss. I have four Pila batteries and use them daily in the L-4+5; they're the best. Guilt free lumens. The L-6 sits because the 4+5 are producing "free" lumens. Once they feed your lights, you'll look for reasons to use them. Pilas are the reason I prefer SF L-5 over SF L-6.

Here are the numbers from the first run from a fully charged 168s:

At 53 minutes it started to dim.
At 54 minutes it fell out of regulation.

I will dig this post up next saturday after I do the second test run with the week old pila.
I agree with MrMom, I don't think there will be much of a difference, but it would be nice to know just how much juice if any you loose in a week.

I have used bare cells similar to the Pila's in my L4. The one cell I charged and it stood for more than a month. Not wanting it to be left out I used it this weekend, so far full brightness and have not manage to flaten it yet with intermittent use.
After only one week, any difference that you may find can be put down to the difference in the capacaties of the cells due to manufacture rather than self discharge.
