Resistor In PT Torrent

May I assume an R300 SMD component is a 0.3 ohm resistor? May I also assume its purpose is to limit inrush current to the Torrent's lamp? Unlike the Surge it replaced, the Torrent is listed for use with rechargeable cells so might that be a reason for the resistor?
