Well, I'm about to start researching a report for my fire prevention class (standard 10pg) and am planning on doing it on fire hazards presented by alternative fuel sources in transportation. One topic I want to address in particular is electric cars and the dangers associated with high energy density batteries like li-ion. I figure what better place to get a little jump start (no pun intended ) than here?

This was a car dealer telling me the following in an effort to get me to buy HIS vehicle instead of a hybrid SUV I was considering . . . he said that firefighters and EMS have to receive special training on where the batteries are so they don't electrocute themselves trying to extract people who have crashed with a hybrid. He said it was a major hazard/concern that slowed many extractions.

If there is any truth to that, I bet any fire deptartment that provides that service will know.

As for lipos, there was someone talking about using them in a mag conversion and I wsa trying to talk them out of it. A search should yeild my comments backed up by some links.
