Put a KPR103 in a new Koehler Bright-Star Responder with some AA NIMH's and now my poor old MiniQ40 is languishing on the shelf. Much better piercing beam and light output on the Responder.

Thanks.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">sotto,

Have you runtimed it yet? There's always a tradeoff and I find that the UK 4AA's and 2L have the best balance of brightness/runtime/size and
weight that I've come across so far.

I would be very interested if the KPR-103 turned out to be efficient enough to match or nearly match the UK's runtime while maintaining superior brightness.

I haven't run-timed it. My current standard for being happy with the runtime of a light is if I can take it outside every night and play with it for a few minutes without having to recharge it more than once every week or so. I would estimate that so far I've put about 20-25 minutes total on the Bright-Star with no apparent drop in output. The beam has some artifact, but the tightness and brightness are what I'm after for jollies.

Thanks.

I have to say I like my MiniQ40 & Responder equally well. I'm running the Responder on NiMH's & the Q40 on alkalines. The bulb that came in the Responder is a great 4 cell light. It's very bright & only draws .45 amps. The # on it is XPR4AA. I really like the size & output of the Q40. Don't think I could recomend on over the other. Just have to "get both". TX

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">TX,

Could you take a quick look at the Mini Q40 lamp and see if it says "14801" or at least "480"? Also whether the outside of the reflector is black?

BTW, have you tried out the new switch on the UK 4AA? It's a beaut, probably one of the finest non-tailcap switches on any light that I've ever used.

norm,
the lamp in my Q40 is "chrome" on the outside of the reflector & no #. My 2L is black & #14801. These may not be original as I had a spare lamp & played musical lamps with the 2 lights until I got my best combo. My current spare lamp is black on the outside, but no #.
I did consider getting the new Q40 with the switch, since I didn't like the 2 hand operation required on this one. Instead, I took off one of the o-rings & found one a little thinner to go on. It's still waterproof (I don't dive) but I can turn it on & off with my thumb while holdong the light. TX
edit:
It was the 2L I took off one & replaced the other. The Q40 only has one. I just replaced it. Both can now be operated with 1 hand.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Thanks TX. Did you notice if the beam from that 2L with the 14801 is very bright, tightly focused with a small diameter?
