Hi everyone! Its been a while since I've posted here at CPF. Over the winter I had a new boat built and I've been kind of busy chasing these things around the past few months, so my flashlight hobby has taken a back seat for a while:

Anyway, Matthew over at BatteryJunction.com was kind enough to send me a prototype MOP reflector for the new Lumapower Lumahunter MRV light. If you are not familar with the light, you can do a search here on CPF or check out the stats here:

Anyway, as most of you know, the stock reflector combined with the stock Cree XR-E 7090 LED packs a powerful punch as a single LED throw monster. I was very impressed with the throw on this light but since the stock reflector is a smooth reflector it does tend to have some minor rings and artifacts when doing routine bounce tests off the ceiling or walls. These imperfections are less pronounced when using the light outdoors in a real world situation.

Regardless, I decided that I would like to try out a MOP reflector in order to see if I could get the beam a bit smoother. Matthew had an extra lying around and was able to send me one to play around with. I have to thank Matthew for offering this part to me, as he really went above and beyond the call of duty to get me one of these.

So after the part arrived I swapped the reflector out and I have to say it does exactly what you would expect. It smooths the beam out to an almost perfectly smooth hotspot that gradually fades into the corona. The beam is almost identical to the D-mini (w/ MOP reflector), for those of you that have that light. However, the hot spot is much brighter, and slightly bigger than the D-Mini with the same amount of sidespill.

I have been trying to get some beamshots posted, but as many of you know, while I take OK still shots of my lights, I suck at taking beam shots. (Somebody, please, I need a lesson!!). Anyway, when I can figure that out, I will surely post some comparative shots to let you guys make up your own mind.

So to make a long story short, its really a great addition to the MRV. I would recommend the new reflector highly if you want to smooth out those rings while sacrificing very very little in the way of throw.

Thanks again Matthew at BatteryJunction.com
