Roxio Easy Media Creator 7....or something else?

My family is going to Costa Rica in December. It's a whole day there, and a whole day back basically.

My parents just went to Tenessee and they know the importance of having something to do on the flights!

I run a wild show here, coordinating multiple burners, different types of music, an mp3 player, a mp3 playing palm pilot, etc.

I could use some help here. I need some software that will do Mp3s, and easy transfering from audio CDs, to MP3 format on my hard drive, to burning mp3 CD's.

Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 seems alright. Any better ideas though?

I've not used Roxio since around version 4 or something...switched to Nero for some reason and find it pretty easy to use - but I'm somewhat of a novice!

I downloaded the demo...seems nice. The only thing I can't figure out is this: if I put in a regular audio CD, can I save the tracks as MP3's on my hard drive?

Bought EMC 7 a month ago at costco for a lot less than anywhere else. I think it was $79.00 with a $20 rebat. That was the good part. The bad part is that its a piece of crap beta release. I have not used it to rip mp3s yet because I bought it to edit and author dvd's. Well guess what? It has a major problem with synching audio and video. Patch is supposed to be released later this month. Thats only 1 of its many problems. Okay, sorry for the rant /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Seriously, EMC7 has some major bugs. Go to the roxio support website and browse the threads to get an idea. I am back to using easy cd creator 5 platinum for audio files and it does a pretty decent job once you install the updates.

Try exactaudicopy.de, rated best by MaximumPC for ripping/burning and free, (except for the postcard).

You wont beleive this, but,
Windows media player actually does a nice job of ripping audio CDs to mp3s!
And it will even let you burn using it.

I would suggest using NERO burning software.
It seems to be the best. Very good about not messing up CDs.

And, when you tell it to make an audio CD, it automatically knows, to convert the mp3s you want on the disc, back to audio CD format.
Or, if you say make a data disc, it will keep them as MP3.

Another vote for Nero, can usually get it at a discount for an OEM copy or a slightly older version.

Easy Coaster Creator is really worth avoiding.

Second vote for Exact Audio Copy as well.

I have been using Easy CD creator from near when it was first released. Good program. BUT I am a NERO convert. Nero is a GREAT program.

If what you want this for is primarily music with perhaps a small amount of cd burning (other than cd audio or mp3) perhaps you should look into MusicMatch Jukebox which will rip them and store them on your hard drive and is very easy to take a play list and burn it to a cd as either CD audio or MP3 with one or two clicks. MusicMatch also has pretty good builtin/plugin support for transfer to mp3 players as well. Media Player will rip to mp3 (or at least it used to) but isn't the default setting. I think MediaJukebox will also do what your looking for but I haven't used it much lately.
If your looking for more general purpose cd/dvd burning software my vote goes to Nero as well.

Windows Media Player will record your Audio CD's into MP3 with one of 3 easily-downloaded plug-ins (I use the InterVideo XMP3). The plug-ins are $9.95. It does a good job, and of course you can choose the bit rate.

I also have been using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum, and it does a good job also. Burns Audio CD's just fine, and I especially like creating the self-executing slideshows (you can also add one soundtrack for each slideshow) for burning to CD and giving to friends and family.
