This battery runtime plot is for a HELIOTEKINC.COM Model HTE-1 1w led flashlight running on two Energizer L91 Lithium batteries.

Equipment used is a Extech Mdl Light Adapter into a RadioShack 22-805 multimeter with a PC interface that is using ScopeView software (V 1.08).

The vertical axis is 0.20V per div which is equivalent to 200Fc @ 1Ft / div. The horizontal axis is 30 minutes per divisiion.

Be aware that your actual bvattery milage may vary from that indicated by this runtime plot.

The runtime to 50% max brightness = 7h 27m on 2 x L91 batteries

Heliotex designed this light to operate on the Energizer L91 Lithium AA sized battery and it does do that to the tune of 7h 27m of flatline light output (1,000+ Fc@1Ft on my system). The HTE-1 will operate on alkaline batteries but at less than half the L91 runtime. The level of light output of the HTE-1 is the same for both battery types, which speaks well for their regulation circuit.

I forgot to point out something very unusual!

Heliotek lays clalim to a runtime of 6-8 hours within the following specs:

6 hours @ 68 degrees F - 8 hours @ 115 degrees F using L91 batteries.

I measured a runtime of 7 hours 27 minutes at 76 degrees F! Nice to see honest specs being claimed!

I just started the battery discharge analysis on this flashlight, using Energizer L91 lithium cells.
Assuming the test doesn't get queered, I should have a chart ready very late tonight or sometime tomorrow morning (probably sometime between 8:00am and 9:00am PDT).

The discharge curve is looking a lot like Roy's, and I don't forsee any difference.

The flashlight is still going, so I probably won't have a chart ready tonight.

Runs for about 6 hours 55 minutes in regulation, then drops off like somebody slammed the toliet seat on its head.
Runs for about 7 hours 10 minutes to 50% intensity, and 7 hours 20 minutes to 10% intensity.
Total time for this test was 8 hours 10 minutes.

Since the battery lifetime appears to be somewhat temperature-dependent, I'll state the temperature:
The ambient temperature at the test site was approximately 85°F (29.4°C) to 90°F (32.2°C).
 
It's not quite as bad as it looks.....if you look at my L91 plot, you'll see that after the loss of regulation, the HTE-1 was still putting out 25 Fc@1Ft at the end of eight hours. The alkaline batteries were generating 15Fc@1Ft for several hours after the loss of regulation. When using NON-rechargeable batteries, LED light don't normally shut off....they just get dim for a long time.
 
I decided to award this flashlight a full 5 star rating, and a place in my website's Trophy Case.
Even though it's really not that pretty to look at.
But the HTE-1 was meant to be a tool, not a jewel, so it's appearance did not figure into my rating.

I based my rating on the beam quality, battery discharge curve (or "cliff" in this case), durability, water-resistance, accessories included, the ability to tail-stand, scalloped bezel, and so on.
 
So this is actually a preproduction light? Heliotek tells me that it won’t be available until September.

I don’t get the brightness/runtime on this light. Compare total brightness listed on Quickbeam’s website with other 1 watt Luxeons. Then check the runtime from various sources. Calculate brightness x runtime and divide the total by battery power. The HTE-1 seems to be putting out double the lumen hours per watt hour compared to other lights like the Arc LSH-P, Inova X0, and MM/BB400Q2.

Double? As in twice-as-much? Could the battery/circuit/emitter/reflector combination be working that much better than anything else out there? Thanks for any thoughts.
 
the designer told me that the circuit runs at 86-95% effecient...they sound like serious folk.
 
This is such a interesting light and seems very awesome for any thing, a great diving light too! i went to their website but no price was showing yet and doesn't seem like you can order one yet. But I'm betting these guys hang around cpf alot. Or else i don't see a reason to develop such a hightech and super reliable flashlight for the normal public. I'm thinking of getting my hands of one of these instead of a surefire. have a G2 with KL3 and that's as far as i'm going. since sf's aren't as waterproof as this when i do take up diving.
 
The "Big Brown Truck of Joy" dropped off a package fromt Heliotekinc yesterday. Inside was the latest version of the HTE-1 "Electronic Flashlight'.

Based on the runtime plots, I'd have to say that all of the changes are cosmetic....the red parts were changed to black....beam shaper was added and a removable clip was added.

A runtime plot with L91 Lithium batteries was about the same as the origional HTE-1 (7 hours plus). The following runtime plot was done with the new Lithium AA batteries from the Battery Station.

The runtimes for the Lithium batteries are 7h 27m (L91 Rev1).. 7h 9m (L91 Rev2)..7h 3m Rev2 (BS).

The HTE-1 is marked on the outside "WARNING! USE ENERGIZER L91 AA LITHIUM BATTERIES ONLY". They probably didn't know about the Battery Station lithium batteries at the time of the re-design of the HTE-1. The light seems to work ok on alkaline batteries but at a much reduced runtime..3+ HOURS.
