I'd like to know how and where do u disposed off old rechargeable Li-Ion batteries? I've read about such batteries causing fire and explosions, I don't feel good causing harm to any garbage collectors or anyone.

Based on my experience, I would comment that it is fairly obvious that this should have been posted in the Batteries section, so I'll move it there to benefit the flashaholic community.

My local battery store will take all comers whether you purchased from them or not. They specialize in vehicle batteries & charging systems but carry most battery types.

They even accepted a "puffed" Li Poly pack (defective/damaged/out-gassed but still sealed- potentially dangerous). The owner being an avid electric radio control enthusiast may have helped.

If your city has a hazardous waste disposal site, they will take the cells, as well as flourescent lamps, household cleaners, etc, etc. Also Home Depot and Lowes have a battery disposal bin for spent cordless tool batteries, but I think they will accept single cells also. The bin is usually located at the return desk.

At the office, they have canisters for the collection of Alkaline, NiCd, and NiMh cells.

They specifically state no Li-Ion cells.

Instead of creating a new thread, I'll piggy back on this one, since it's sort of related.

How do you dispose of CR123 and Energizer Lithium (L91/L92) primaries when they are dead?
