I see that Pila are fine but dont see any reference to rechagable 123.
 
Well we know that the Scorpion LED is a buck circuit for sure, and it may be able to tolerate 9 volts like the Surefire KL1 does which has a buck/boost circuit. You can check mA's at tailcap (end of tailcap, tailcap removed, and leave batteries in body). If current is lower with two RCR123's than with two CR123's then circuit is probably regulating current ok. There is a risk that you might damage the circuit or led, though I would probably do this anyway. Up to you.

How can I check the current at the tailcap of the Scorpion LED anyway, given the switch is built in and non-removable.

Guess I'll need the TL-2 to do the trick...?
 
I recently acquired a Scorpion LED.

The electronic circuit inside is a buck regulator. I tested to be in regulation from 4.5 to 7 Volt.
Two RCR123 in series may damage the circuit. I haven't tried above 7 volt, since the V/I curve is not linear anymore.

A 168S (or 17670) fits well in the Scorpion LED, but the circuit will not regulate anymore. With a Li-Ion 17670, it starts at almost the same brightness of 2 x 123, but it decreases as the battery is drained.

The Scorpion switch is a "forward" clickie, but it is difficult to activate trough the rubber protection. The Scorpion will not stand in candle mode, even if its bottom is flat.

Thanks,Ray_of_Light, I have never owned a Scorpion. Sounds like the only LiIon way to go is 17650, or Pila 600S, if Pila fits. What is the battery current drain with two CR123's. and one 17650.

My Scorpion LED pulled 700mA using the supplied Streamlight branded cells.

If I handled a Scorpion before buying it I would have spent the extra $ and bought a TL-2 LED Gen II which uses the same LED module and bezel but has the superior tailcap switch and pocket clip/lanyard capability.

So how superior is the tailcap switch? Is it a tactical (forward) clickie?

BTW, at 700mA, SL should've slapped in a premium LuxIII for good IMHO.
