Hi,

I'm looking for a 2-in-1 uv flashlight for security work.

I need to verify ID's and use a normal light for getting around a dark nightclub.

I'd like it to be fairly small - 3 - 6 inches.

Cheers,
Benn

Where are you working? If you see a lot of California IDs, the question gets pretty tough to answer.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of any flashlight that has a dual UV/light combination.

For that matter, UV lights are not especially common - I know Inova has one for about $50. Runs on two CR123 batteries which are expensive to replace, unless you want to invest in rechargeables.

Peak LED Solutions offers an UV option for their lights for decidedly less than Inova's offering.

If you must have a dual function light I suppose this would be the best.

Make sure to get the black one.
390NM UV Leds are garbage for checking ID's (390 and above are the most common)

It's bigger than you'd like but UV/white combo's aren't very common, and the ones that do usually use 390nm leds.
You'd probably be better off going with two separate lights or modifying a dual mode light that uses 390's
maybe one like this.

That said I think the surefire aviator has the best UI for something to be used in this effect.
I wish that surefire would make the new led aviator with UV as an option.

check out this light for a cheap option, then maybe get a better flashlight as your primary light.

the alternative is to get the Ultrafire UV lights either the 501B or 502B, you can check those out at DX. I got the 502B as i didnt think i needed a 3W one and in any event i wanted it as a host for the DX-MC-E drop in (now that is a good drop in)

How much are you willing to spend?

you could get a surefire a2 aviator and get one of the members here to make you a UV led ring. i would say that would be your best bet, seeing as you need dual light. that way could also chose the corect wavelengh for what you need.

now THAT would be a great light!

Hi all,

Another option is the Quiqlite, it's a very small light that can be worn on a shirt pocket or pants belt and comes with a UV bulb for checking ID's. It's very compact and you would not feel it when wearing it.

This will then allow you to use any number of other white lights for walking around.

Bye for now.

Yep, either that, or a second ver. of the new V2L Vampire, but with UV instead of IR.....
Shouldn't there be a market for that among Police officers, border patrol ect. ??

That's the thing that drives me nuts. Of all the led colors the A2 is available in, and the one they don't have is a 375nm UV? It's like they're blatantly going out of their way to avoid the light's most obvious market.:shakehead

It wouldn't make a lot of sense for CSIs (the real ones) or Investigators or any other LEO to have a "normal light"/UV light.

The situation doesn't arise to use one except under special circumstances where it is a problem to have two separate lights.

In all fairness, there is no market for it.

They make small UV penlights. Having a normal light that goes into a low move then cycles to a high mode and another smaller UV light, such as the penlight, would probably be the better choice.

That's what I would want.

Nice - I just wish it came with something other than coin-cells.

You've never had to check an ID? :poke:
Not to be argumentative, but what's the market for for the yellow/green led?

Pentagonlight had a dual led/uv rechargeable light coming out, the series was called the R20/R10/R5.

Ever since the company died, though, it has never come to light.:(

Provided you didn't mind a little bit of work (ie soldering) the 3AAA Streamlight 52104 twintask has LEDs (need upgrading to UV), incandescent bulb & a laser pointer... LPs have been used in clubs in my area for a while to identify a 'trouble maker' to the other crowd controllers ;)

Stuff 2-in-1 go 3-in-1! :D

Listed as a Gerber offering, but not posted on their website - the Gerber Bouncer.

Not a multi-function light, but I imagine it would work well for the intended purpose right out of the box.
