SF E2L with KL1 head

I have had this light for many years and really don't use it anymore as I have lights I like better.

I put new cells in it a while back snd find that the light will not aways turn on. Twisting the head will get it to work. Sometimes I need the smack the head on my palm to get it to light.

I've cleaned the contact areas and tried new cells.

I guess I'm asking if I should contact SF about repair, or just toss it back in the drawer and forget about it. Does it have much value as it is now?

Is the tailcap spring making good contact with the cells? If they are, and twisting the head gets it to work, then I'd say the issue probably lies with the head.

I see no reason to have a defective light in a drawer. Since the head has been discontinued, I'm not sure what Surefire would replace it with.....but they do offer a lifetime warranty.

Another option would be a Valiant Concepts VME head and a drop-in to bring the light up to modern output. I actually just did that for an E2L Outdoorsman (with a Malkoff M61L 219), and am quite happy with it.

Had the same problem with my KL1 head. Thought of sending it in to Surefire but the idea of overseas shipping and the wait time just put me off. In the end, I bought myself a dual output E2L and E1L at a half-price clearance sales from my local dealer and it has been great.

E series bodies sell on eBay for $40+, and the tailcaps are $25 or more.

Nice choices.

Until the 200 Clicky arrives some time next year, my VME-d E2L will be my EDC (once the replacement LX2 clip arrives). I just put the M61L back in it, and will use the M61L 219 in an MD2 instead, until the M61L 219 arrives in a couple days.

This is the greatest benefit of the VME head......Malkoff drop-in goodness.

With the exception of one package that got lost (USPS' fault) I generally get my Malkoff stuff within two or three days, and I live in Boston. Sadly, I get a box from them on average twice a month! (I'm hooked!)

My VME head and Gene's M61L arrived today. It's a nice combo in my E2L body.

Sounds like the Holiday on Monday delayed it a bit. Luckily you've got it.....and it's gonna be dark soon.

On a side note, I received an F04 diffuser for my LX2/E2DL and am very happy with the way it works.
