To hold me over untill I decide to start my mod, I'm buying a pack of RCR123's with a charger. I first was looking to install a medium output malkoff dropin (M61L). It's 3 times brigher than my incan. bulb, also will last up to 5 times longer on standard batteries. The Malkoff dropin can take up to 9 volts which means I could install 2 3.6v RCR123 cells instead of 3.0v. Then I discovered the 18350 is almost identical in demensions but has superior MAH and 2 3.7v batteries would be 8.4v which is still under my 9v ceiling. Has anyone fit 18350's in a G2 or similar light? it's only 1mm wider and .5mm longer so i'm thinking with a little honing maybe?
 
Even if you get the 18350s to fit, you're eventually going to over-discharge them with the Malkoff module because they don't have a protection circuit built in.

You need these AW RCR123 cells along with this economical charger. Any rechargeable lithium cells are going to over-volt and ruin the incan bulb that's in your G2 now. To tide you over until you switch to the Malkoff module you can get a good deal on Energizer CR123s when you buy your rechargeables.
 
The easiest option for running RCRs is by changing the P60 lamp for a P90.

The best option for a malkoff in a g2 is a 17670.
 
The 18mm rechargeable batteries simply don't fit in the G2 body, it's amazing how much difference 1mm makes. I second the recommendation to go with 123 rechargeables, but I've gone with the drop in LEDs from someplace like Lighthound because they're cheaper, brighter, and run a lot longer than the P90 bulbs.

Would the 17670 batteries not be a good choice either because they are not protected? Or is it ok with a malkoff led drop in but not an incan because there is no driver protection?

Last is there a big advantage in going to a malkoff vs a p90 assy.? I am more interested in runtime than light output at this point, not to say this will change in the future lol.
 
You can use one unprotected 17670 with the Malkoff because the module will protect it to some degree, although I imagine that if you ran it in moon mode for hours on end, you could eventually over-discharge the battery. I'd advise you to stick with a protected 17670 and either this or this charger. You only use one 17670 as opposed to two of the RCR123s; it's twice as long. It may offer longer runtime than the 2 RCR123s; I can't remember. The other reason many use the 17670 is due to the gradual dimming of light at the end of the battery discharge cycle instead of shutting off immediately like the RCR123s.

The P90 was mentioned because it would be the easiest and cheapest option to bide your time until you're ready to upgrade to something more expensive. The M61L is going to be a little brighter than the P90; take a look here. Runtime difference is no contest: 25-30 minutes for the P90 with 2 RCR123s versus 3 to 3.5 hours for the M61L with an RCR17670 (that's 3.5 hours at full brightness; you then get another hour or two of gradually decreasing light).

I will buy a 12 pack of surefires to hold me over. Last question. Pro's con's between x2 rcr123 at 750mAh vs x1 protected 17670 at 1500mAh using the M61L because it is regulated down till 3.4v? Running batteries in series multiplies the voltage but retains the same mAh correct?
