Hi guys,

I just bought another KL1 to replace the one that I lost months ago. My impression of KL1's beam is that it is always purplish. My utter surprise when I tried on the new KL1, it is WHITE! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now my question is this, is this a new improvement from SF? I noticed they used the high dome Luxeon as I can see a square projection on the beam.

Now I more or less confirmed it. I have been hearing all too many complains about SF's KL1 being purplish and stuff like that.

My KL1 (late summer 2002) has a slightly bluish-white hotspot, with a very slightly purplish-white corona.

This photograph of its beam was taken from ~12" away.

There is no square hotspot that I can detect, so mine probably has a low-dome Luxeon in it.

I was a little lucky. I tried it on before purchasing from the shop here in Singapore. Tough the optic is not fully centred with the LED I don't really mind as it is not noticeable in actual use.

The one I bought last month is also a high dome with a very smooth white beam. It sounds as though they'll be shipping high domes from now on.
