Actually got to hold a SureFire L-1 today. Very pretty! Nice matt finish HA. A very cool two position switch, kinda like your car, low beam and high beam, except it didn't work very well. The clerk and I messed with it for 5 minutes or so, getting it to work. About the same size as my 6P.

Then I took out my LSL-P for the clerk to look at. Quite a bit brighter, a LOT smaller and the switch worked every time! The clerk was quite impressed. I think I was more impressed than he was.

Good work, Peter!

Re: SF KL1

Yeah, you guys are right. I changed the original post to correct it.

Thanks,

Re: SF KL1

I prefer the LSHP to the L1. I love it's beam which is brighter, whiter and more useful.

The Arc LSH-P should impress even more. Overall, I prefer the color temperature of the Arc's as well. The hand picking of the LED's sure add a lot of value to the quality of the light. I think SF got carried away in their quest to avoid any hints of green and as a result, you get a "purple" light.

My L1 Is like A LOT brighter then the LSH that i got. Then again it was first a LSH-S serial 83, Then it was a LSH-ST Serial 80
What is it with me and getting these low serial LSH, i got mine only like a week ago also.

The LSH-P's (Premium) are much more brighter than the LSH-S' (Standard) - there's a price to be paid for the higher intensity light of the Premiums, but in my opinion (and wallet), it's worth the investment.

Very time I turn on my LSHP I feel lucky . I have to say this is BEST 1w LS led light out there.

Having a couple of SF KL1, a L1, an ARC LSH-P and an ARC LSL-P, I found the light from 1w low-dome LS to be quite a bit brighter than high-dome at 10-15 yards or less. High-dome does have better throw but you can't see much at longer distance with 1W LS - the reflection is just not bright enough. And SF seems to drive the 1W LS harder than ARC, which makes KL1/L1 visibily brighter than ARC LSL-P.

Alan,

Surefire drives their KL1 at 350mA while Arc drives theirs at 333mA, an insignificant difference when talking about light ouput. Perceived light output is probably due more to differences in LED and color temperature. The purple tint of the KL1 does give some the impression of higher light output.

My opinion: My LSH-P is the whitest LED I own, followed by either one of my KL1s(either E1e or E2e), my L1, then my LSH-S. But the beam from my Surefires are much more to my liking. The Arc beam has that irritating diamond shape, whereas the Sf beam shape has a uniform " round " center which graduadialy diminishes towards its outer perimimiter with no dark spots/areas.

CM,

I agree with you assessment. I choose to EDC LSL-P instead of KL1 cause LSL-P is whiter, more pocket-friendly and may run longer.

Oh crap... now I'm going to have to buy an Arc LSL-Premium... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

This thread turned out to be very interesting to me... and painful to my wallet.

Ufokillerz, I got my ARC LSH standard two weeks ago and my serial number is 052, and I've got a KL1 on the way to compare it to.
