SF U2 plus RCR123??

Is it safe to run rechargeable li-ion 123 in my SF U2?
I guess I'm lucky in that I have the removable inner tube buy I have yet to buy any 18650's for it.

What are the pros/cons of running the 18650 vs. rcr123's in the u2?

1x18650 will work - DON'T use 2xR123's!!

With an 18650 you'll get slightly lower output and slightly shorter runtime.

In my mind that makes up for itself in saved money.
