SF vs. a washing machine...?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Yes, the good ol' USA is just finally getting with the times making decent front-loading washers available to the general public. WOW though, 1600 rpm? That would be almost 872 G's given a 1 foot radius...

i think mine *may* have gone through the wm...and dryer...

the other day, "mom! i can't fine my e2e!! it was in my pants!

they were in the wash with my bedsheets...anyway, i went up to my room to look again, and the light was on/in the unmade bedsheets.

i don't know if it actually went through the machines, or just ended up in the same place, but i like to think that it survived the machines... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Experimental Results:
Just put my G2 thru its paces last night. This was in a "standard" Simpson 5kg top loader, about 10 years old (if any1 cares!) It survived. Slight water penetration in the tailcap but all got blocked by the slight lip in the rubber pushbutton. Turns on and works okay, beam image is as it was before. The batteries - I was hesitant to use after the wash, but because the compartment/chamber was completely dry (but smelt like the washing power used), I measured voltage and it seemed normal. I forgot to measure before the wash, but the two cells recorded 2.97V and 2.98V after, and with no visible marks, so no worries.

A Surefire G2 (their entry-level light) has been tested to be exceed the punishment of a washing machine.

Assuming that nothing happened, that's reassuring considering the potentially explosive reaction between lithium and water. I didn't realize the batteries were that well sealed. Were they loose or in some kind of container?

Thanks Onyx for clearing that out for us. You are one brave flashaholic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Did you enjoy the show? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif I can´t imagine the ansiety you must have gone through waiting for the load to finish.

Maybe a story about it could make into the SF´s True stories and testimonials" page

Thnx!
Alex

Well actually AlexGT, I put the light in with the laundry about 11pm and went to sleep. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I slept as I had any other night.

The constant knocking as the light hit the steel tub of the washing machine was a bit of a worry however.

hmm....alright since the beam doesn't get screwed up, i'll put my C2 into the laundry in a pants pocket next chance i get (i'm not going to let it get banged around). i'll post the results here.

I think Surefire should start a page of all the weird and unusual things we flashaholics do to their lights. This would be one way to prove how versatile their lights really are. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

400+ G's?

I try to learn something new every day. Today I learned why cats don't survive the spin cycle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
