I love my Space Needle...it is raining but I did play with it a bit outside. The beam is wonderful....much better than I thought would ever come out of a Maglight.
I got out my stock 6 cell D Maglight...ugly ugly beam.
The Silver Space NeedleII made it look like a stupid toy.
I next compared it against a 12 Volt Surefire 500 Lumen 12ZM. It was a good contest. The Space Needle has a whiter light but the 12ZM did not look Yellow in comparison. The 12ZM has an excellent beam.
In terms of beam alone, I had a hard time deciding which I like better. It is a good comparison. I think the SureFire 500 Lumen 12 volt has a bit more reach but not much. Up close, I think I like the Space Needle a bit more.
But here is the telling part. The 12ZM does not have a long lived bulb and sucks down batteries like a fiend. The 500 lumen light kills off a set of batteries in 15 minutes and I watched the 12ZM start to fade. I don't know how long the Space Needle can keep going but it started kicking the 12ZM as the batteries started to fade in it. So we had a 4 VS 3 battery contest and the Space Needle won that one.
Now I have a Question. I was on E-bay and I saw a 5watt 2D maglight that had a 3 cell 123 adapter. Also there are those 6 AA battery backs.
I wonder if a Space Needle or MegaClops could be made that could use both the 6 AA's or 3 123's buy changing out the batteries. I would like to be able to use one or the other depending on what batteries I have on hand.
I would like a 2 D-Cell Space Needle that could run on either 6-AA's or 3-123's bye changing out the batteries. And it would be nice if it was in Dark Green or Grey....The car is dark green with a Grey interior.
