Hi Folks,
Bit of a newbie here, I am very keen on doing a couple of mods but I maybe lack the technical knowledge required, but, hey, I'm learning.
Anyway, I was in a large department store in the UK (where I live) the other day looking at their prices for CR123A batteries for my Surefire G2 when I noticed some 'Silver Oxide' batteries for sale, they were very small (even smaller than CR123a's) and I believe were rated at 6.2v per battery. They were very expensive - £6 (or about $10) each but they looked VERY cool and small - I imagine you could power a very powerful flashlight using these batteries.
Does anyone have any experience of using these batteries?
 
Ah, small batteries don't give out power easily. Have you seen those small 12 volts batteries? S'pose to be used in remote controls or something like that. You can't force much power out from em. They have high voltage, but you can only draw very little amps from them. Maybe 1 to 10 milli amps for constant use. If you are looking to build something that is small utilizing something like the hearing aid batteries, I have found that they work very well. My WTKPs stay lit far longer then I had ever thought they would. I have all but killed the batteries and they seem to gain a great deal of their power back after being all but completely discharged. I mean something like a single 5mm LED.

I think the 6V battery you're referring to is a stack of four SR-44 cells (Or S76). These are very low drain cells. In the 200mAh region while a lithium 123 is in the 1300mAh region.

mAh is milli (thousandth of) Ah is ampere-hour or one ampere for one hour.

The silver oxide cells hold up their voltage well, but don't like the cold (like alkalines).

The single S-76 cell is widely used in camera equipment (at least Nikon 35mm stuff of a certain (1980-1990) vintage).

There is a 2L76 which is the height of two silver 76s and is a 3V lithium. Very useful for cold weather use in the above-mentioned Nikons, though at least one of the compact series (FE2, I think) doesn't like them. I have the FM2n and the FA as well which I think do like the lithiums.
