I'm looking for a single mode (or one that can be made into a single mode) driver for a build. This will be driving a triple xp-g led board. I'm looking for US based as delivery from dx and kd takes to long. Also looking for a piece of 1inch copper stock around 6inches long. Thanks CPF & CPFM :)
 
Is your triple xp-g board wired in series or parallel? What is your power source? Max driver dimensions? This type of information is sort of important...:poke:

Wired in parallel. I'm using a aw16340 battery. Dimensions should be 15mm-17mm. I knew I forgot something ;)

8-amc7135 board should work with the leds wired in parallel but the current divides between the leds. Should get around 933ma per led in parallel.

Series is usually the prefered method for wiring multiple leds. The current stays the same for all leds and the voltage divides but the voltage would have to be boosted to around 10v or so to provide enough voltage for 3 xp-g's. And the current draw from the battery would triple from the output current to the led and I dont think that a 16340 will handle this unless its a IMR or you keep the current to around 1a to the led's. A xp-g has a max current of 1.5a but can be pushed a little with good a heat sink. What drive current where you looking to get.
 
Im really unsure about that :/. I'm looking about trying to get around 500-700 lumens from it. If it gets around 933 mA that should be close to what I want I think. Unless there is a better option? And the battery is a IMR, sorry about that, I have too many around.

With three xp-g's wired in parallel and running at 933ma each thats around 2800ma from a single 16340. A AW IMR states a 550mah capacity. So 550mah divide by 2800ma gives you .196 of a hour run time or 60 x .196 = 11.78 minutes of run time at best. Is this what you had in mind?

Yes that's fine for runtime. I'm not looking at a long burner just a nice small bright light. Any suggestions for a driver? This is a total noob question but, if the max voltage of the led is 1.5mA and the driver puts out 2.8-3.04 mA isn't that too much voltage? Or do you divide it by 3 because it's running 3 LEDs? I'm trying to figure this out.

In series voltage divides and current stays the same. In parallel current divides and voltage stays the same. In parallel all the leds should see the same voltage but the 2800ma divides between them about 933ma each. If wired in series the voltage (divides between the leds) would have to be around 10v or so for the leds to work at 933ma.

If you are looking for something simple then you have already found it. Use the amc7135 board wiring all three xp-g's in parallel. If you use the illumination supply board 3040ma then thats about 1013ma per led and less run time. You can add more amc7135 chips to the board to give you even more current per led. 4.5 amps (1.5amps per led) would be about the best for brightness but at a cost of even a shorter run time. Here's a few pics of how to add amc7135's to your board. If you use the 3040ma board you will need to add 4 more amc7135's from another board to reach 4.5amps. If you use a 2800ma board you'll need to add 5 amc7135's from this same board. The 3040ma board uses 380ma chips and the 2800ma board uses 350ma chips.

Thanks that makes sense, finally :). Now if I can just grasp forward voltage and the like lol. So in theory, what would be a close assumption of the output with the 2800mA board running in parallel with a IMR 16340 battery?

With three xp-g's wired parallel with a 2800ma amc7135 board should be around 933ma per led and drawing about 2800ma from the battery depending on the charged state when measured. Some where around 330 lumens per led from jtr1962 test.

Ok one final question and I got it all figured out. How can I make the 3 or 5 modes boards single or low high mode. Also anyway to remove memory? CPF is the greatest :tu:

Depends on where you buy the driver. Here's info for the 105c that I think KD sales. Illumination supply also gives you the info for modes on their website for the 3040ma driver. Shiningbeam also sells a very similar driver. You might shot a email to bryan at shiningbeam and ask him if the modes can be changed. He carries the H,M and L mode which I prefer the most. Their is also discounts from some sellers listed in the CPF Market place forum here. You will probably have to sign up there to see the discounts.
You do know that you could accomplish about the same thing with a single cree XML with the same driver and same battery.
