Sky Ray?

Looking for fun at some lights and am seeing some Sky Ray lights out there. They appear they fall in between in quality as they look better built and cost more than the ****Fire models but are cheaper than the JetBeams, ZebraLight and Fenix lights. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and if they are actually any good.

Ok, I take it back, after looking some more it appears that Trustfire/Fandyfire/Ultrafire/Uniquefire/SkyRay are all literally the same lights that I am sure are made in the same Chinese factories. They are all sold together everywhere I see them like DX, Manafont, Light Malls, Lights Box etc. I would still love a 3xXM-L but just nothing in my price range that seems to be worth it.

Any 3xXML light is going to be expensive, even if it is a budget light ($50 or more). I try not to spend that much on a budget light, knowing it could break down as soon as I get it. But if you really, really want a 3xXML and don't want to spend over $100, budget will be the only way to go. Just make sure you do your research and you could come out okay.

I agree the "Skyray" brand is meaningless. Just another piece of clipart the budget factories can slap onto a light.

I bought the SkyRay 1JC8 because I like the exterior design--part of the head is conical shaped, and that's a design feature I really like. I don't carry this light, so I can't speak to the durability of the anodizing, but everything else checks out - machining, anodize coverage, laser printing, reflector and glass quality, and fit and finish are overall very good. This 1JC8 is a somewhat minimalistic design, so it lacks knurling on the body, which makes it a bit more slippery than I would prefer. Obviously this may differ depending on which model you buy. The down sides I see are the reverse clicky (I prefer forward) and the XR-E. In it's default state the 1JC8 is a very good thrower for it's size, but the beam is ringy, which is to be expected. I don't really fault it for the older emitter or reverse clicky since I bought it with the intent to modify it. I'm satisfied with the quality of the host and I would certainly buy it again if given the chance.

I've had a pair of Sky Ray S-R5 lights for two years [these are a clone of the Lumens Factory SP-6 Seraph]. The light uses p60 drop-ins. I use at least one of these lights every day for at least 30 min. at a time. I've had NO problems and these lights are used outdoors in all weather; rain, snow, sleet, -20 cold. I also have a pair of SP-6 Seraphs which also get regular use. The Sky Ray lights are a few grams lighter, the drop-in receiver is a bit looser than the Seraph, the original glass lens is just plain old glass, and the overall machining is just a notch below the Seraph. OTOH, both lights have taken drops, gotten wet, and been used by folks w/ no idea how to use a light w/o a single failure.

i have 2 sky rays, both 3x xml, one 2x 18650 other 4x 18650 (tk11 clone) quality in both is very good for the price. I'd place them on higher end of budget lights.

Do you mean TM11 clone? the TK11 is only a single XM-L light.

I've had a pair of Sky Ray S-R5 lights for two years.

I have one of those and really like it. It has a very unique design, well Seraph's unique design anyway. Like a little light saber hilt or something. It performs fine, but it is still a clone and of no better quality than some of my other budget P60 hosts.

SkyRay SA-1 is a good buy. Its cheap, good build and good throw.

If you want a multiple XML flashlight and not so picky about appearance,Trustfire J18(7*XML) and J12(5*XML) would be better options.

It seems a well made light, not anywhere near the TM11 in quality, but good nonetheless for the price.

id say its a toss up between this and the dry 3xml for biggest bang for the buck, one of these days curiosity is going to get the better of me and im going to grab a skyray king... they can be had for as little as $51 shipped from china (theres a thread on BLF on them)

for $50 bucks? you can barely buy 4x 18650 3100mahs that are good quality for that price much less a light lol

U might be surprised to find many so called higherend lights are made there right beside some other
not so highly thought of lights.

I bought the fandyfire uv-s5 and man it is impressive!
Great build quality great ui and the output! Wow
kills my othe budget 3x XML lights
the colour isn't really that gold either, if you can get past the fact that it is called fandyfire then it is a great buy
also not even two weeks shipping from DX! Fastest yet

Even if that is true, (and I don't see any proof in your post) many factories of all kinds, cars, food products, watches etc. produce varying quality products at different price points.

I once did some contract work for a large international manufacturer of chocolate, they were making chocolate for one of the supermarkets house brands, it wasn't made to the same recipe and didn't have the quality of their own brand.

i totally agree here with bridge. for sure Skyray is no real company with people working in Skyray-labeled overalls/office suits/working garment at CNC machines labeled with Skyray stickers in dedicated Skyray headquarters.
but as forum interest proves many buyers dont care much about such marketing tricks and meaningless brands, or better said: marketing labels. they see only the product itself, how well it is machined and if it is good value for the money and mod-able. personally i wouldnt go there because knowing alone that after-sales services is non-existent would bother me during the lifetime of the product. It's like going to Walmart and buying any pseudo-branded China made stuff from the shelves, e.g. a well-made cheap paisley handbag, and not ever/even thinking of contacting the Chinese speaking manufacturer or the US distributor if there is a problem with the product after 12 months already: if the paisley breaks after 12 months, we would have expected it and not rant about it. Throwaway society's mentality.
With paisley i have the same mentality. But with 50$+ stuffz, whatever the Made-In-China product is, i'd prefer the full package and not merely the CNC's output itself.
