I've purchased two MC3000s from 'batteryspace' in the past 12-18 mos., and the listed price that I paid was $129.00 USD. When I've checked since then, the price was unchanged.

I just clicked my link to that product page to check it again, and the current listed price is $170.60 USD. How 'ya like them apples?;-)

Just sayin'...

Tariffs.
Here (EU) I can still get the MC3000 for 99 Euro (around 112 USD).

That device isn't something that would be stored 'on the shelf'. It doesn't muck with the US economy in either direction. You're gonna find a lot of 'stuff' costing more. Especially non-essentials.
Buckle up cowboy. You'll ride this out.

On my best days I know just a little about sparky stuff, but absolutely zero about economics, so I try to stay in my lane.

I figured 'batteryspace' raised the price on the 3K as soon as they saw the product release info on the 5K;-)

I am exactly half joking about that;-)

Usually, when a new model is released, vendors discount the old one to make space on the shelf for the new one.
That's not the case here. Told you, tariffs. That's just the beginning.

What your're getting at is almost certainly true, but that's why I said 'half joking'.

It's also true that if a new product does not live up to the predecessor product (and I'm not saying that's the case here, but it very possibly may be - TBD), the value of the predecessor model can increase, based on pent-up demand waiting for the new product, and also resulting from possible disappointment with the new product after it arrives; and that can be contributed to by increased concerns about the long term availability of that prececessor product.

I did the math, but I'm not simply thinking about tariffs, I'm looking at the specifics of this particular big picture as well - in parallel. I'm not disagreeing with you at all, just saying that in this specific case there may other factors in play beyond the '101' stuff. In this case, we're both right;-)
