SL4AA7LED new version resistor

I looked inside my brother-in-law's new SL4AA7LED and it has an added resistor of 2.0 ohms, 5%, and it looks like 1/2W. This is in addition to the individual resistors on each LED (which I assumed hadn't changed).

I didn't measure the light output, but it still was plenty bright.

I don't know if this resistor is enough to protect the LEDs from lithiums...
