Hi guys, I opened some solar powered strings lights I recently bought off Amazon and noticed they used 1 x AA nimh @ 800 mah.

Is it ok to pop in a 2,000 mah Nimh, perhaps longer run time? Or would the battery not fully charge up to 1800-2000 in a given day, thus no point?

Yes, you can put in a higher capacity battery. However, they usually use the lower capacity batteries for a couple of reasons:

1. They're probably cheap.

2. If they're not cheap, they can stand the abuse and frequent cycling better than a regular battery.

I'd say, give it a go. If the solar lights are in full sun, they'll probably get a full charge in the summer. If in partial shade, or in the fall and winter, the battery will likely not get fully charged, but that won't hurt it.
