I’m new to this forum but not new to flashlights. I have several lights including 4sevens,fenix, Maratac, and stock and upgraded Maglites.
Recently, I purchased a Solarforce L2p with XM-L drop in (3-6v5-mode white label) from solarforce-sales.com. I loaded two new Titanium Innovations CR123a primary batteries and usedthe light twice without issue. All modes were working fine. About one hour later, I used the light onlyin the high mode. After about twominutes I noticed that the light was growing quite warm. I turned it off and disassembled thelight. Not only was the entire lightwarm but the batteries themselves were very warm. Not hot, I could still hold them, butclose. In other CR123 lights that I have,the body of the light may grow warm after extended use, but the batteries seemto remain relatively cooler.
I allowed everything to cool to room temperature andreassembled the light. At this point Inoticed that the light was still working, but only on high. It would not switch between modes. I switched to a different set ofbatteries. Same situation: one modeonly. The light worked fine on high(with either set of batteries) and the overheating problem had disappeared(also with either set of batteries).
I contacted solarforce-sales.com and returned the drop-in tothem. I should mention that theircustomer service is great and that they are very responsive, especially giventhe time difference with Hong Kong. Theyhave shipped me (haven’t received it yet) a replacement and refunded my returnshipping. In the meantime I am running aThrunite XP-G drop-in in the Solarforce body and have not had problems of anykind.
Anyone have any theories on this situation? I hesitate to blame the batteries since Ihave used this brand in 4sevens and fenix lights without problems.
