Just ordered this light host.I dont even know if it will have a switch in it LOL.
Thats not the ?. The ? is what solarforce drop in 2 modes minimum would produce the
tightest beam not necessarily the highest lumen.Shouldnt cost more than $20.based
on what ive seen from there selection.Not looking to step out of there price range <$25.
at this point.Mabey down the road.And if you think for $25. or less who cares then thats cool just say so.

:thinking::thinking:

Not getting too fancy, the xp-g r5 give good light with a bit tighter beam than the XM-L. Cost about 15-20 dollars and running max about 1 amp with 3 modes from most venders. Cree XR-E Q5 gives even a tighter beam but usually runs at about half the power over the xp-g, also about 10-20 dollars.

The tightest beam I have would be an XR-E module, I have one of the older harder to find p60 modules with an R2 EZ900 XR-E led and find it throws just slightly better than your standard run of the mill R2 XR-E. You could probably find an XP-C led and mod an XP-G module and achieve similar throw but the XP-C doesn't produce as many lumens as the XR-E.

I suppose to get a tighter beam in that price range you'd have to custom make one using a TIR optic but that might go over the price range.

I see that DX still sells the XR-E R2 (3.7-18V) drop-in for $7.99. I bought one several years ago and it is a true bargain. I swapped the OP reflector it came with for a smooth one and the throw you can get out of this thing is impressive, especially for the price. ----sku 11836. Of course, DX is a crap shoot with things like this but with one exception of a badly off center XM-L module (which they were happy to replace) I've had pretty good luck buying budget light components from them and the R2 was nearly perfect.

I have an R5 from DX and Solarforce and i think they have the tightest beam that i have in my small light collection :)

I have several of those and have not had an issue - they will out throw the XP-G for sure. AND if you order the aspheric lens to fit from DX, you can quickly convert your L2 to an aspheric thrower. :)
