How does the L2's user interface work with a multi-mode drop-in?

Hello,

the interface will be defined by the drop in and by the tailswitch.
The first choice is to select a drop in with or without memory. If it has a memory it will switch on with the last used brightness, if it has been switched off long enough. If You switch it on short after switching it off, it will be in the next mode. If it has no memory it will always switch on in the first mode of the drop in.
you can choose between a forward and a reverse clicky. The reverse clicky switch is nice if You want to change the brightness setting while it is switched on. With a forward clicky it is easier to select the brightness while switching the light on.
My recommendation is to buy both kinds of switches and try out which one is the right one.

The reverse clicky switch is nice if You want to change the brightness setting while it is switched on. With a forward clicky it is easier to select the brightness while switching the light on.
My recommendation is to buy both kinds of switches and try out which one is the right one.

I believe you meant forward for the second description.

I suggest buying one and see if you like the way it works if you don't you could always sell the dropin and buy a single mode.

A fourth rapid click or waiting longer than three seconds to click again will turn the light off.

The time delay turn off isn't essential. Is this possible?

The drop in will always cycle between all modes. If You are already in Mode two, the next mode will always be mode three. If You get a drop in without memory, it will always turn on in the first mode.
Do You want to change the mode with two rapid clicks while turning the light on, or two rapid clicks while the light is already switched on?

Possible yes. But I don't know if anyone makes them like that right now. (It's also very possible I'm not understanding what you want completely)

Solarforces aren't expensive. So it will be the best to buy a Solarforce with a 3 mode drop in and a reverse clicky. If You need a forward clicky instead, just buy one. If You are new to multimode flashlights, Your first purchase will most likely teach You what you don't like. It's no deal with an unexpensive light like a solarforce. If You don't like, give it away to some friends or relatives and buy something else. That is far easier than finding the right light by just asking experts on the internet.

Isn't that sort of why these forums exist? Even inexpensive lights (less than $25) are way more expensive than what the general public is used to spending on a household flashlight...

Yes and no.

If your the general public your probably not on this forum. Plus you can only try and explain something for so long before the poster has to buy it and try it. they may love the way the dropin works or they may hate it no matter what anyone says on a forum.

Have an L2P with an Ultrafire (Manafont) 3-mode XM-L and I absolutely love the reverse clicky with this 3-mode. Click to power up, soft press between modes and last mode memory. Awesome UI.

Solarforce drop-ins have a great UI (IMO). Instead of the memory being stored after the light has been on for 2 seconds (like a majority of the 7135-based drivers), it instead stores it if the light has been off for a few seconds before turning it back on. So like Flashlight Foy said, a simple soft press of the reverse clicky while the light is on and you go to the next mode. You can turn the light off immediately after going to the new mode, and the next time you turn it on it will be in that mode.
