Hi,

received a new Solarforce L2P flashlight (3 mode XM-L dropin) from solarforceflashlight-sales a few days ago, but it doesn't turn on with any of my batteries.

- Trustfire 18650 2400 mah
- Xtar 18650 3100 mah protected (body is extremely narrow, battery didn't fit properly)

I thought it was supposed to work with any type of 18650 batteries. Anyone with same problem?

btw, contacted sales department, no solution provided.

Several things to check:

1) is the tail cap tight? The L2P has a lock out feature (I believe) where you loosen the tail cap a half turn and it prevents the light from turning on.

2) is there a drop-in spring installed? The spring ensures a solid connection of the drop-in to the body for the negative contact.

3) is the tail cap switch retaining ring tight?

4) is the battery rattling around inside the light? Early L2Ps are slightly longer than other P60 hosts and some people ran into issues where the battery was floating between the drop-in spring and the tail cap spring. Just give the light a shake with the battery installed. You should not hear nor feel any rattling.

5) are the batteries charged? I know, this should be obvious.

Along w/ what PCC said, if none of his suggestions work try this: remove the tail cap, then with a battery installed, use a paperclip or something similar to connect the "-" end of battery to the non-anodized body threads. If the driver is good it should light up. If it doesn't then the driver could be damaged and you'll want to get a replacement from SFsales. Good luck.
 
The L2P comes with a gold colored non-conductive coating on the internal areas. One thing I needed to do for my L2P's was actually to scrape off the gold coating on the little ledge where the negative spring sits on. This always got my lights working.

Also since you'll be in there it's also a good idea to cut down the negative spring a few coils as sometimes the springs are too long. If you can't press the module in til the back of the reflector can touch the body, that means the spring is too long. And with any 1.5 amp module it's a good idea to wrap the module tightly in aluminum foil so it can wedge itse;f in the light. This maximizes thermal contact to the body and ensures the module doesn't overheat.
