Hey guys I need help,
I got the Solarforce L2r Black AA SST-50 680 Lumens, and it's not bright at all. My xeon e03 is brighter. Is there a different drop in thats better? I saw a video and it really was a thrower. I also got the skyline 1 and the switch is not working all the time or is it some kind of trick switch???? Thanks..
 
The 2 AAs can't power a SST-50 or XM-L on high current. I don't know how anybody can sell this combination of batteries and LED. A drop-in wth a Voltage range of 0.9 - X volts and a maximum LED current of 1.5 Ampere should be better.
 
An LED needs 3.5V to run properly. 2AA alkaline is 3V dropping to 1.8V. 2AA NiMH is 2.7V dropping to 2.4V. Simply not enough voltage to do the job.

You need a 18650 body, battery and charger.
(You already have a Dereelight so you already have the battery and charger.)
(Try the Dereelight body on the Solarforce head, or the Solarforce drop in in the Dereelight.)

You don't need 3.5 Volt at the battery, a boost driver can boost up the voltage. The Solarforce 0.9-4.2V XP-G drop-ins work fine with two AAs.
 
The low voltage solarforce XP-G dropins work a treat. The SST-50 requires more power than AA's can give.

The XPG needs 1.4A at the LED, ~2A from 2AA batteries.
The SST50 runs at 4A at the LED, ~6A from 2AA batteries. A boost driver for that level of power needs its own heatsink or it will fry.
A higher capacity 18650 can produce both the voltage and current (just).

A member once tested a Solarforce low voltage drop-in (can't remember if it is MrGman, TiForce or BigChellis) and got the following results.

Notice the light level boost with the proper battery.

If you look at the OP's signature he already has
iTP A6 POLESTAR, (Very bright P7)
Xeno EO3, (Tiny 1AA. Can be very bright with a 14500)
LumaPower IncenDio V3/V3+ GT Upgrade kit, (337 lumens in a turbo head)
Dereelight DBS V3 3SM R2 WD (turbo head thrower)

2AA is unlikely to produce the light levels of these especially the lux/throw numbers of the last 2. My guess is the OP was expecting more light than any one of them.
My suggestion of popping the SST50 drop in into the Dereelight head should provide more lumens due to the more suitable battery. And the Dereelight DBS V3 turbo head would increase lux/throw over the standard head of the Solarforce.
 
Very good information. I would think that it would defeat the whole purpose of having the L2r light. The light is made specifically for AA batteries. I would think that just getting the proper drop in would be sufficient for the OP. You really can't do much with that body.
 
The reason I bought this light is that I saw a video of the L2r really throwing a tight hot spot. I didn't know that there is different drop ins. Thanks for the replies.
 
If you're after a tight hotspot, just get the XR-E low voltage drop in, they're the best at throw when it comes to p60 modules.
