If you have a host for instance that something won't quite fit in a heat gun will be your best friend, the one's they usually use for stiping paint and they are cheap to buy. I use them every day for relaxing and bending PVC pipe and I couldn't live without one, however it is very easy to over heat the plastic so it either wrinkles from being too soft or leaves a burn mark on the finish. The best way to avoid this is to do most of the heating from in the inside and when heating from the outside move the gun back and forth quickly so it is not delivering too much heat in the same spot. Also stop every now and then to check the plasticity of the plastic with say a wooden hammer handle. Once it is plyable enough fit the object and cool the plastic from the outside with a wet rag. Bear in mind as it cools it also shrinks somewhat so possibly move the object you are fitting so it is a loose fit while the plastic is hot.
Also "Emerkit" which is a 2 part epoxy putty which can be worked like clay even using water to finish it off smoothly will more than handle the heat at least from 130W of HID power without buring and leaving a residue on the reflector. Though for the first fire up I usually do it without the glass fitted to be sure.
A dremel is a must !! They pretty much speak for themselves. A varialbe power PSU(power supply) is also very handy so you are not relying on batteries and you get the same reliable power every time. I hope this helps some of you make what you want if things don't quite fit properly. If anyone else has any handy hints by all means feel free to add them to this post. I have a recent build which puts from ~55W to ~120W which I will put up later in another thread.
