First and foremost...

Where has this forum been... my dreams come true in text form.

Second. I just got myself a 1995 Pathfinder XE-V6 4x4 and was thinking about doing some conversions to my lighting.

So far its only consisted of a Silverstars in the headlights and stock foglights. But thats not going to be enough for my taste.

So I was thinking I might run some ideas by you while I have them all sitting in my head.

I was thinking about some aux stop lights in the rear, however I haven't done the research into codes here in Salt Lake to see what the rules are about having more than the 2+1 stoplights in the rear. (Except I do know that as a bus driver, most of the buses I drive for public trans here use multiple tails in various hights and what not. For the rear aux stop I was thinking about getting a pair of single-row LED exterior lights that I saw at a local Autozone and mounting them high, like on the rear luggage rack bar. Legal? Practical? I know it would look cool, and be fairly unique for around here.

Dome/Map lights, whats the easiest way to convert to Luxeon's on the domes and map lights, my dome is a festoon type and the map lights are 194 type I believe.

Any other recommendations? As a CDL driver and a person who has seen some of the most annoying oncoming headlights while driving a vehicle that out-classes and outweighs all but a tractor-trailer, I assure you the last thing I want to do is blind the oncoming drivers.

Thanks ahead of time for the help, reading around here I have found that this is a forum that will be put into my regular forum-whoring rotation now.

I feel inspired, thanks guys.

I recently converted my dome light to a couple of Crees, which makes it considerably better than it used to be. That whole thread is pretty relevant and might give you some ideas.

Very nice, I will have to look over that thread more for details. Thanks.

I am not a newbie to general LED theory, but the name brands of the high end LED's that I know begins and ends at Luxeon. Anywhere you recommend to purchase these?

I will of course be doing more reading here to see if I can't catch up a bit more info on all this.

Thanks for the replies.

You have a fair amount to catch up on, so don't rush out and buy. At least, not just yet. For probably the whole of this year the Cree XR-E and Seoul whatever-it-is have both been brighter and more efficient than anything Luxeon makes. The Luxeon Rebel is pretty good, but very small and quite hard to work with. It does come on star boards though. The Seoul Semiconduct Co LED is similar to Luxeon is output shape and position so it's close to being a straight drop-in replacement for Luxeons, so you may want to go in that direction. Most people seem to use Crees though.

So that's the main names you can look for threads on. DX and KD are the least expensive places to buy Crees from.

Ok, so I have had some time to look at the housings for my map/dome and what not.

My dome is a shorter looking festoon style bulb, but the contacts for the bulb and even the switch itself are easily accessible, I may just make a small alum. plate with a star-board style emitter on it.

The map lights are a harder thing, they use a bulb that I dont recognize and the housing is decidedly smaller. I will try and find a dig. cam to get some pictures available to you guys, see if you have any opinions. Anyone done anything with Nissan map lights from the mid-90's?
