Space Needle or Blaster VI dd

Well the BlasterVI will have more of a flood type beam, while the space needle is made for throw. Depends on what you will be using it for I guess.
 
The Blaster VI direct drive has a broader beam which lights up a much larger area, although not as far as the Spaceneedle. Outside at least, I get to light up a larger area, so if illuminating a larger area without panning the light is important,then the Blaster VI is for you. The hot spot on the Spaceneedle II (second) is brighter, but not as useful as an all around light, but its' good for seeing something specific in the distance. I think they are both nice for what they do, but if I had to choose, I would choose the Blaster VI especially when it's set up for 6 aa nimh batteries. But, I'm sure you will find just as many people who like the Spaceneedle II for it's longer throw and the brighter hot spot. My Blaster VI DD is much brighter after taking out the resistor.
 
I've arranged for Mr. Bulk to make me a Space Needle in a Mag 2D rather than 2C. This makes a bigger flashlight than the 2C SpaceNeedle, but provides a wide range of power sources -- Including those of the Blaster VI.
 
I really wonder whether direct driving from NiMH will result in fried LED's.

I presently run a V3U 5W HD in a Mag 2D body, DD. I've cycled two sets of fully charged Powerex 2000 mAh AAs as well as a set of Duracell alks in a 6AA carrier and have had no problems. I would not run lithium AAs in it though.

I have the same question on 6 NiMHs. Accordingly, I've posted elsewhere to ask Elektrolumens whether he will modify two of this 3AA to D adapters for me. One would have the 2.2 Ohm Resistor installed (his standard for the Blaster VI) and the other would have the 1.0 Ohm resistor (an alternate he's already installed in the Blaster VI upon request.)
 
I like SpaceNeedle II. (My SNII is 6AA version)
A reason is bright, is white and is the performance which illuminates a long distance.
However, the heat by direct drive is uneasy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm actually more impressed by the peripheral spill light of the SNII than I actually am about the spot, even though the SNII had excellent spill at spot mode...

I went back out and compared these two lights again and was shocked at what I found. The BL VI had a large hot spot area, whereas the SN II had a smaller more intense hot spot longer throw with way more spill that I had totally missed before because it's hot spot was so intense, funny how we see things, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. At a medium distance the BL VI clearly has a much larger hot spot, wider area of light but the SN II has way more spill. I don't know if I explained it very well, but it is indeed like the pictures show.
