spacer batteries questions

I want to get my 5 and 6 D Mags modded with Malkoffs, but I also want to drop in AA-to-D spacers to use rechargable AAs. What will this diminish the runtime to and how - or will - it affect the operation of the light?

P.S. Do C-to-D-sized spacers exist?
