I was watching a TV shopping channel selling what they called a Special Ops Watch. It had 3 led lights on its carbon fiber dial.

They said it was designed for the Secret Service, CIA, etc.

Does anyone know if this is hype or the real deal?

Also, any links for other sellers of this watch?

Thanks.

The fact that you saw the watch on a TV shopping channel should tell you something! Those watches are garbage, and well hyped. Marathon is currently the ONLY watch company that is authorized to make watches for the US govt, and you won't find their watches on some shopping channel.

"Designed for", that is the key phrase. I could design a candy bar for the CIA and FBI. What does that mean? It means nothing, but sounds cool. It does not mean that the CIA gave design specs to the company for a specific watch. They just want people to think of cool spy movies when they see this watch.

Anyway, actually this looks like a cool watch to me. I want Casio to make a databank digital watch version.

A friend of mine (past 35 years) who is a Master Diver Ret. in the Navy (over 20 years) said his guys bought their own watches which were mostly G-Shocks. He also worked closely with the S.E.A.L's who he said also bought their own watches which were mostly G-Shocks.

He said he never saw any of those watches that are advertised as being real issue dive watches on anyone's wrists that he worked with and he never saw any that were actually issued either. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that he never saw it.

Mike is correct in his statement. Most enlisted people buy their own watches, which tend to be something along the lines of a Casio G-shock/Timex Ironman watch. The Luminox watches are NOT issue watches, but copies of the plastic cased Marathon navigators watch, which IS an issue watch. Stocker and Yale also made a similar watch for the US Govt. before they got out of the watch business, Countycomm sells them, and you will see them on eBay from time to time. For a more in depth look at US issue field watches, I recommend Ned Frederick's excellent field watch site:
