I am looking for a spotlight with automatic following.

has this ever been done?
bacicly the spotlight would always follow a reciver.

For instance if an actor is on stage the spotlight would follow where ever the acter went.

Yes, this technology exists. If I recall correctly, the band Genesis developed/introduced automatic tracking spotlight systems somewhere in the late seventies or early eighties. The same system was used by bands like Pink Floyd on later occations.

I guess that you'll find it commercially available today at some of the larger PA/stage light distributors or rental companies.
