Spotlights question

Hello, This is my first post, nice to meet all of you. I've had little experience with spotlights, used a 1 million CP in PA to spotlight deer. I've wanted to upgrade to a much more powerful spot but am not sure which CP is good or brand name also. I've seen guys complain about their 15 or 20 million CP spot saying it's not as bright as it should be and they've recommended to stay at 5 million because the beam is just as bright. Is this correct or could it be that they bought an inferior spot? Thanks!

They probably are the same brightness, most cheap spotlights use the same bulb so output will be the same, only throw (candlepower, lux) varies. But usually manufacturers candlepower claims are meaningless, a 5mcp spotlight can throw further than a 15mcp spotlight because they're just numbers plucked out of the air, I doubt most of the companies even bother to measure the genuine candlepower. If you want to know how far a spotlight really throws look for reviews here on candlepowerforums, there are loads of good spotlights out there depending on your budget and bulb preferances.
