Just got back from a weekend of caving. Most of the guys who do serious caving all have Stenlights. But then my FENIX P3D Q5 caught their attention. The P3D Q5 is not a headlight. Comparing apples and oranges. But it definitely got everyone's attention since the Stenlight is supposed to be very bright. But not compared to the P3D Q5.

The Stenlight is also something like 5x more expensive.

How I wish FENIX made a headlight.

i headmount my P3D-Q5 (and other Fenix lights) using either a JakStrap or a MiniMag barrel clip if wearing a ballcap. either solution works for me and accomplishes the goal of hands-free lighting. smaller, lighter, and brighter than a purpose-made headlamp, while still possessing decent enough burntimes.

the Fenix lights were the primary reason i crossed the Stenlight off of my "to be acquired" list.

I own both brands, and you just can't compare the two devices. The Stenlight is tiltable for when you are crawling versus walking. It's alot easier to reach up and pivot the head up or down; not so with a Fenix, or any other tube-light. The swith on a stenlight is also far more rugged and water resistant too. I do use a Fenix as a back up and it has been tied to my helmet for hundreds of hours of caving, so it's very tough too, but it still doesn't work as well for a mainlight.
If you are not a caver, you'd be better off buying a bunch of Fenixes to play with, and leave the Stenlight for those who take their lights through hell every weekend.

As far as I know, the Stenlight still uses Luxeons. It can be upgraded with SSC U bin LEDs for a significant improvement in total light output. I would think Stenlight would be doing this themselves soon if they aren't already.

They also drive the LEDs at 700 mA on Turbo mode. Isn't the P3D driven harder?
