Sterile Surefires?

Does anyone know if Surefire has ever made any "sterile" unmarked lights for the military. If so, do you own one or have photos?

Did the OD green 6P's have markings?

What's the point of unmarked lights, if they're as distinctive as Surefires? Anyone who looks at one is going to know its origin.

most non-CPF members aren't going to know a surefire from a maglite, IMHO.

Not everyone. I've showed many people marked surefires and they've never seen them before.

When I visited SureFire I got the strong impression that much of what SureFire do is never seen by the public.

This is true. I ordered one from a dealer who had left over and was originally told it was HAIII but after I recieved it it turned out to be OD. I sent it back. Probably should have kept it but can't afford to buy something that I can't use and I would have hated to use it as they are probably kind of rare. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The very early SureFire's didn't have the flat side with engravings, the OD 6P was one of these. Back then only the tailcap had something engraved - nevertheless these are not refered to as "sterile" I think.

I have an old "Laser Products..."-tailcap marked one except it is a 6R and is black Type II ano.

I just bought one of the sterile Inova X5T-HA's from countycomm, so I was just curious if anyone else made similar lights. Sterile knives are not unusual from companies like Microtech and others.

Yes, it would be recognizeable as a Surefire, but you could still deny was ours easier than if it was marked.

It's true that most members of the general public wouldn't recognize a Surefire, but I thought the idea a sterile item (e.g. a knife) was that you use it on a covert mission in some exotic land, the item gets captured, and specialists at the exotic land's intelligence agency examine it closely and still can't tell where the thing came from. No standard Surefire model can be anonymous enough for that.

But the markings are what indicate the country it came from, not where it was made. Take this 6Z for example:

The tailcap is etched 6Z-CH, designating it as non US. With a sterile Surefire, some exotic land's intelligence agency examining it closely may know it is a Surefire, but not a US issue Surefire. Does this make sense?

In a sterile light you might not want to use Surefire or other US batteries either.
