Stinger 3watt from Streamlight

I had an inside word about this light almost two years ago, but it was hushed-up by S.L.

What's interesting is Streamlight's continued use of Nicd cells, probably for compatability with existing Stinger chargers.

Also cool is a hi/low/strobe function. I'm hoping these are activated by switch times (like the Survivor LED) and not through switch cycling (like a twin-task).

That is impressive. I'm still waiting for a LED Ultrastinger to replace my current one. Although I don't think and LED can produce that much lumens to replace the US yet...

Is the reflector on the LED Stinger identical to that of the Ultrastinger? The US has the best spot/flood reflector I've seen.

Too bad there is no retrofit kit for the old Stingers.

It looks like the diameter of the Stinger-LED is the same diameter as a stock STinger, but deeper.

I don't think it would be feasible from an engineering standpoint to produce a retro-kit for incan. Stingers.

I doubt there'll be a StingerXT/LED, also.

Given the power source my guess would be that it is direct drive and uses a PWM circuit to attain the other settings. Any confirmation on what type of circuit it uses?

They are in fact compatible with existing charger bases and power cords. This makes good sense as some large LE and other agencies have dozens or even hundreds of Stingers. The flashlight can be replaced without disturbing the charging setup in place.

Also, NiCd is still a very rugged and forgiving rechargeable chemistry, especially for those who are not as attentive as the average flashaholic.

But, $177.95-pretty pricey, maybe.

It’s definitely a little pricy not to have Li-ions. Oh well, its cool any way. The multi-level light settings are useful. :grin2:

What do you make with li-ions at very cold weather? there are ni-cads the better way. when you want most power, ni-cad are the best you can use.

I think I actually saw this light while cruising Streamlight's site over a week ago. I decided it must be new since I couldn't find anything about it in Google. Didn't realize it was that new though.

I don't know if any of the sringers have hazardous locations ratings, but I have yet to see any flashlight that does and uses nimh or li-ion.

I called Streamlight and was told the operation of the light is basically the same as the twin task lights in that you click once for low power, then click again for medium, then click again for high power, then hold for strobe. I don't know about anyone else but to me that stinks. And for a suposed police flashlight, what were they thinking?

That's really disappointing and a terrible decision of SL's part.

I guess, when it's released, we'll see for sure.

Well I called streamlight back today because that sounded too crazy to be true and talked to someone who told me the following:

If you press and hold the stinger led's button it goes from high, medium, low just let off the button when you reach the level of light that you want and to access strobe they said double click. I saw them for sale at copquest but they're not in yet. Streamlight says about 6 weeks.

As for the remote pressure switch for the TLR-1 weaponlights they now say next year sometime whereas I was told by October when I inquired previously.

Depending on your point of view don't you just hate it when a manufacturer releases new product information months before the product is available. Then just when you think you'll be able to go and buy it the store tells you they haven't had any deliveries because the factory has delayed the delivery date. If Streamlight is saying about 6 weeks that'll take it to Christmas and then you know they'll be delays for sure!

I am looking forward to reading reviews about this light when it becomes available. I have a Streamlight Stinger charger now in my work vehicle and I was thinking that this could be a nice light with the ability to just use my existing charger. I already have an Inova T4 that my wife uses more than I do. I suspect that comparisons will be made in the future between the Streamlight Stinger LED and the Inova T4.
