Am looking to get a new duty flashlight LEO. Like the size of the stinger it looks big enough to bang on doors but small enough to keep on me full time. I use an issues sl20x for this right now and it's massive. I am looking for high output, momentary on as well as permanent on switch. I would like it to be fairly easy to switch from high to low settings as well. I am looking at the stinger hs hl and the stinger hs hp but can't really tell which is better. But very open to suggestions as well!

Take a look at the Elzetta Charlie.

that one looks like its a little out of my price range.
first things first, which of the two stingers do y'all recommend most the hl or the hp?? then I can go from there

Me personally, I would go with the DS LED or the DS LED HL. I don't like the larger head on the HP.

My department uses the DS LED.

+1 on DS LED or DS LED HL. The issue with the HP is the spill is not nearly as good as with either the standard LED or HL. DS (dual switch) is something you might miss if you don't get it. Having the extra switch on the tail cap makes it much easier to turn on quickly without fumbling for the switch. The HL is much higher lumen and has the best spill, but you will sacrifice battery life as it is good for about an hour or so on max setting versus 2 hours for the standard LED.

It is important to remember that you most always get what you pay for. As a retired LEO of 24 years, you need something that is extremely durable and built for the long haul. These Elzetta's are made in the USA and are very stout! I have the 3 cell light and I can say that is well worth what you pay for it. It is modular, so if you need or want to replace any part of it, you can. I tried many lights in my day, and the Elzetta is the real deal. Much better than my Streamlight Stinger and the DS LED Stinger, etc. I have the high/low tail cap which is engineered very well. The new AVS heads are a great enhancement and throw out a lot of light. If your life depends on it, do not skimp. Just my 2 cents.

I look at it this way. The standard stinger and the HP will penetrate tinted vehicle windows much better than the HL and not have as much bounceback glare. Clearing interior residences and wherehouse's, then the HL will probably be better.

The HL and standard are near the same size and carry well on the belt or the SAP pocket. The HP's head is a little large for the belt, but does fit okay in the SAP pocket. I wouldn't trust it to stay in place during a foot pursuit though. I think the standard Stinger DS is a good compromise of throw and spill (more throw though) with better runtime than the HL. 1.25 hours for the HL really isn't that bad though the more I think about it. As long as you top it off in the car after decent usage it will be enough. If your on some long perimeter of article search the medium is probably more than enough for that stuff.

Ive had my Pelican 7060 for almost 7 years now and the 1.5 hour runtime hasn't left me lightless before. Then again I do carry a 2x123 backup light if it did.
