Help Support Candle Power:

Hi Bruce B.,

Not spectacular, but cheap. For around $8 at Wal-Mart or $16 for 2, get the Rayovac LED that is 2D size, but uses a 6AA adapter. My experience with this adapter is that it produces something like 4.5 volts with alkaline AAs, adjust to 3.6 with rechargeables. [At least that is my current guess despite my comments in the relevant thread. See the thread for more details.] Use the adapter and a 3 cell bulb such as the Magnum Star Xenon 3 cell.

The Rayovac UPC? code for the 2pak is BRSGEL6AA-B2. I have been using this in a 2D and I am happy with the arrangement. Essentially, turns a 2 cell D into a 3 cell with reasonable runtime, although I have not measured this. Substantially improves the width of the hot spot as well. [It's kind of late and I'm too tired to search for the original thread.]

these adapters can be easily modded to be 6s instead of 3s2p. I'm running one with a numstar 5 cell bulb in an old ROV. I wouldn't trust them with more than 2 amps though...

Hi Jabe1,

I located the original posting to see if there was an explanation of how to convert these adapters to 6s. It wasn't mentioned in the previous postings. [Note first that easy to me would mean bare hands -- no soldering, etc. but that's just me.]

So how's it done?

Thanks

The 3 cell krypton will have a longer life in a 4C than a 4D light.
Also, you can stuff 4C cells in a 3D Mag. You'll need a 1" PVC pipe to act as a sleeve for the smaller batteries, and you'll need to deanodize the inside of the tailcap and stuff a shorter/smaller spring in there.

Not über bright for CPF standards, but it works nicely. I had one just like that in my car for years.

I run a TerraLux 6EX LED in a 5 cell Mag powered with two 266560 LiFePO4 cells also two of the same cells in a 2D Mag with the mag LED Drop in.I used a length of aluinum tubing for a spacer and a cardboard sleeve on the cells in the D size light. Neither are super torches by CPF standards but they match the throw of a couple of 220 lumen rated tacticals that I have.

Just realized that I most likely should not have mentioned LEDs in this forum, however the 2 LiFePO4 cells deliver just over 6 volts under a fairly high amp. load and would be a good power source for power hungry bulbs. The 5 cell C would hold 3 such cells, perhaps 4 but I guess it is no longer available. I can remember when the 5 cell C Mag was the prefered Duty Light of most Law Enforment officers.

First check to see if contact is made by just putting the spring in backward. It did on mine. Saves cutting the stock spring or having to find a replacement.
