Was looking for something else (for one of my Smiths) and ran into some interesting looking lights, including this 2AA with switch (they also had various size D lights and a 2X123).

Now I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this 2AA. It looks like it might be a candidate for an MM or BB ...

It seems to be made in the US by PowerTech (never heard of 'em), and I'm wondering just how different it might be. The similar Dorcy has a kinda hokey lens setup, but this one appears to have a screw-on retainer ring for the lens (which would mean possibly putting in a GOOD lens).

Any experience out there?

Thanks in advance,

Are you interested in trading something for one? I've got one brand new, sealed in the package w/batteries and holster.

I've had it since October and just haven't gotten around to opening it. I had a couple extra MiniMags that I used for my "drop-in" mods and really don't need another one. It has a switch on the barrel and a "lifetime warranty"...

I'm reasonable...what's in your bag of "extra goodies"?

Heheheh ... I've only been staring at LEDs since June, so I don't have much of a goodie bag or junk drawer established yet, Sigman.

Before that I just had the usual run-of-the-mill *aglites, and some Photon II's on keychains and that I used as gifts. (Now of course I'm so festooned with assorted lighting that mostly what I get is derision as I clatter and clank down the street.)

Besides, about a half hour after posting my question I ordered one of these units. Pretty sad, eh? Only lasted a half hour. *sigh*

Thanks for the offer, though!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Had me laughing with that one...the other day I went to one of my son's rifle matches and I neglected to bring a single torch along! I felt naked! What if the power would have gone out and no one had a torch?! I should be "punished"...think I'll go buy another light on the web!

Uh, Ok if I add question #423a? OK? OK. Here it is:

The BB400 I've been looking forward to has arrived, and while I'm waiting for one of these flashlight bodies to arrive as a possible conversion candidate, I dropped it into a 12 year old *ini*ag that was laying around with nothing better to do.

I mean, heck, I wanted to see what this BB400 would do, right?

Well, it jumped right up and stomped all over my Arc LS as far as light output, color, and evenness (did I just make up a word?).

My question is about the LED itself. Since I only have two of this type, and one is locked away inside a glued together Arc LS, this is the only one I've seen naked. *gasp!*

This LED appears to have some small dark (black?) inclusions near the top edge of it's clear shell. They are easily naked-eye visible, and very visible when the LED is happily ensconced in it's optics (big-black-blob visible, then).

Since one-half of these LEDs I've seen have this problem with inclusions (1 out of 2

), I'm wondering if it is fairly normal, and if it is anything to worry about.

Interestingly enough, it doesn't appear to detract from the supurb pure-bright-white output, so my main concern is it's possibly affecting it's durability by either being a contaminant or even simply absorbing a lot of heat and causing failure that way.

Think I'll go back an stare at it's beautiful light now ...

I dunno - it doesn't appear to be anything on the outside of the LED, but things inside it.

Here's a bad picture of what it looks like through the optics when installed: Luxeon inclusions

That's actually pretty close to how they look by eye. I tried to get a shot of them "bare" but I can't get this particular camera to focus closely enough for a decent pic.

The most obvious ones I circled in red to identify them as not being something on the lens, or whatever.

wow! i have never heard of that before.

my best guess is that some dust or other foreign material got in the phospher before they were able to apply the top.

wierd indeed.

I had a chance to buy one of these for $5 at he flea market, but chose not to because there was no bezel to unscrew to remove the lens. The light was reminded me of the Craftsman 2AA lights..
