I think I've got a long term solution for keeping the module in the flashlight that works all the time and does not have any drawbacks.
It's rather simple so here goes.
To test this idea requires an o-ring the size of the battery tube and adding a solder blob on the module. I took a #017 that we sell on the shoppe which is the one we use with the optics and ships with every module kit.
I carefully cut and tested the o-ring after cutting by dropping it into the flashlight tube and noting if it overlaps and by how much. When I got the o-ring cut so that the ends closed and did not overlap when inserted into the battery tube I set it aside.
I then solder blobed the anode contact on the module to make a round blob with approximate thickness (1/16") to offset the o-ring.
Drop the module in, then o-ring. It seems to retain the module just fine. The o-ring moves and you can bottom the head down and it will still come up and turn back on.
I'm in the process of trying to get a custom o-ring made specifically for this and if this occurs, I will be offering it with all future modules. At some point I will be solder blobbing all modules. I see no downside to not doing this and it prevents wear on the actual anode pad on the board itself.
You can get many different sizes o-rings at the local Hardware store. Just get one that is larger than 9/16" OD and has a 0.062 diameter (1/16").
Give it a shot and feedback here you thoughts. I think this is a good solution and works better than the retaining ring I am currently offering on the shoppe.
