Shepherd, TX (where dat?)
I was within a couple miles of them when I did a service call down by Pearland.

I felt like a kid in a candy shop! All those wonderful toys!

Full (or dang near it) Fenix selection. Pentagon lights. Terralux stuff. SL stuff. Solarforce stuff. MUCH more.

Knives, Pens, Bags, Pelican cases. And MUCH more.

I came away with an XTar P7 light a LOT like Ultrafire C2.

Wanted SO much more!

I HIGHLY Recommend a visit if you have ANY reason to be near Pearland, TX!!!

ohhhhhh......i want to be able to visit one day! but first, i gotta fill my pocket with some...uh...alot of money first. :grin2:

I know how to solve your problem............just bring a credit card.

money is one issue, how to justify the drive is another. Luckily I only live only a couple miles from it. I can probably walk if I'm inclined to. Google says I'm only about 1025 miles away, thats not too far right? a 1000 mile pilgrimage to a holy shrine, 2545 miles to the holy land |+|

By any chance do you remember what models of PentagonLights were in stock?

So how do you find the XTar P7?

I have one on order. Does it have more than one level?

I find the XTar P7 to look and feel a lot like an Ultrafire C2.

It is a two level (via tail switch) light that is Direct Drive in high and resistered low.

I spent a fair amount of time initially trying to "tune" the beam. I've come up with a beam that is kind of nasty out to maybe 6 feet and nice from there on out.

I'm not the worlds biggest fan of two level switches. But this one works just fine.

My MTE P7 light from Dealextreme has a better SEEMINGLY brighter beam. But the MTE has two dice that don't get as bright as the other two and so has beam goofiness at any distance.

Anyhow I'd give the XTar about an 8 on the 10 scale.

Thanks. :)

I also have the MTE-P7 (5 mode) and I am happy with the function and the beam.

The build quality for the MTE leaves a lot to be desired though:-
The o-rings in the lens-retaining part of the bezel are inadequate.
The bezel was glued on the body. When I broke the seal I found out why.
Its because there is so much play in the threads that it wobbles all over
the place unless tightened to a maximum.

I'm hoping that the build quaility of the XTar is better than this.

I think you'll be pleased with the possible exception that just like the UF C2 the lens is retained by the reflector pushing against it.

All the threads are good!

It arrived today and I am pleased with the build quality.

It seems to work very well with an AW 18650.
(I read of problems using other 18650s because the high current draw causes the protection mechanism to kick in and shut down)

Wow, this thing seems to output a lot more than my MTE-SSC-P7 on high.
The hotspot is also much stronger so it should throw further.
Its also at least an inch shorter, so its nice and compact.

Its only daytime now, so I'll look forward to looking at it tonight.:D

I would not have believed it if I hadn't just tried it.

The XTar is in fact brighter than my MTE.

I was fooling with it last night and I REALLY had to fart with it to get a beam I like.

MTE is a lot easier in that regard. Different reflector shape and all.
